Just wanted to make sure you and I were in sync over the upgrade to Windows 2000 in the build lab. As you know, we upgraded three of the six machines to Windows 2000 a few months ago. We did this in order to get around the hardware compatibility issues when we upgraded net cards. I just wanted to make sure we have the go-ahead to finish the upgrade for the other three machines. Okay by you? My bad. I was supposed to follow up with the boss on that one, wasn't I? Sorry about that. I'll ping him right away to make sure he approves, and then I'll get back to you. Don't mean to bug you about this, Hank -- but the build lab really wants to know about installing Windows 2000 It seems the kernel team fixed that problem they were having. We asked you four months ago if we could install the beta, but you never really gave us a definitive answer -- and then we asked again in December, but you left on your annual end-of-the-year, month-long vacation before you gave us your answer. Well, it's not so much that you didn't approve or disapprove it. It was more like you never really gave us any indication what your feelings were one way or the other, and we didn't want to go against what your wishes might or might not have been. So I guess, no, I don't really know what you were or weren't thinking on this one, since you didn't really give any direction on this one, per se. Funny you should mention "decisions," because the guys in the build lab are practically blocked until we tell them to upgrade to Windows 2000, so they could use a decision here. Priority: HIGH blocked! in the build lab? i'm super-concerned about this. how long has this situation been going on? why is this the first i'm hearing of it? do you have a damage assessment -- specifically, a schedule impact report? make sure to include long pole figures, overall goodness factors, and feature-merge contraction details. holy smokes. do you think i should contact marketing and give them a heads up that we've slipped? any suggestions on how i sell this one upstream? let's get together and brainstorm. i'll have maggie my admin book a conf. room at the gym for later this morning. clear your schedule, because we've got some serious strategizing to do if this is as bad as you say. how could you let this happen? don't let this out. i'm sure i can count on your discretion, because the clowns in bldg. 7 would love nothing more than to point at this as the excuse to kill our project. are we sure they don't have something to do with this? we aren't dependent on them in any way, are we? i should have seen this coming. on a totally different subject: isn't your review coming up? hww -------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Maggie Sanyi (on behalf of Hank W. Hank has requested that you join him for an emergency conference at the Country Club Gym this morning to discuss how to recover from the current crisis in the Build Lab. Per his instructions, he'd like a full impact report. I've notified the gym that you will be going over there early, so they are expecting you. I highly recommend going at least three hours early, because it can take that long just to do color correction on the video conferencing system (Hank's requested the Far East distributors monitor the meeting, so look your best!). I've ordered in lunch just in case. I couldn't get the good sushi, but I think I can divert a shipment of Maine lobster that's due to arrive on the corporate campus around lunch. Keep your fingers crossed! :-) Thanks! Maggie, I had no idea Hank would want to meet on such short notice! I just got in, because my whole team was at it straight through the weekend in a bug bash marathon, and we finally collapsed around 5:30 AM this morning. Is Hank still over at the gym? Should I head over there now?? I've left voice mail for you and him but neither of you seem to be around? Are you at the gym? If I don't hear from you in the next 15 minutes I'll just head over there. I look and feel like hell, but I don't know what else to do! Help! We were looking everywhere for you. It turns out Hank threw his back out playing tennis at the gym right before the meeting and ending up getting an emergency massage that conflicted with your meeting. In the meantime, we managed to get a hold of Judith in the build lab, and she explained everything that was going on. While I've got you, Hank would like to accelerate the reviews of his direct reports and specifically singled you out. Could you come in tomorrow at 8:30 A.M. to take care of that? Thanks so much!
